What to Pack for Travel If You Want to Keep Moving: A Physical Therapist's List

▸ Show notes from the creator
Packing for a trip and worried your workouts will fall apart? A physical therapist shared the exact items she never travels without, and a few of them surprised me. In this episode of More Movement Please, I break down Ashley Katzenback's travel fitness packing list, from hydration and recovery gear to the tiny tool that fits in your purse. You'll hear what she packs (electrolytes, a shaker bottle, compression socks, a lacrosse ball, a resistance band, plus creatine and sleep supplements), what I already use on the road, and what I'm going to test next. I just got back from Gen Con, so I've got real convention-floor lessons on staying fueled, hydrated, and moving when you're on your feet all day. I'm also looking ahead to 2027 conferences and conventions, and I'm open to sponsors who want an on-the-ground correspondent to report back on what I see and learn. Plus, I want to know where you think I should go next. Hit play, grab your carry-on, and let's get you moving, even when you're far from home. Have you worked out today? When you're packing for travel, you gotta pack with fitness in mind. What's up my movers and shakers? Famous Ashley Grant here. Welcome to More Movement Please, the podcast where I hope to inspire you to move your body more. So today I want to talk about packing for travel and packing with fitness in mind. You guys know that recently I went to Gen Con and I was talking a lot about the things I was packing to be prepared for the trip because the idea was I knew I needed fuel, I knew I needed hydration, I knew I needed like...
00:33
you know to make sure that I was bringing stuff with me that would help me be prepared to move my body a lot while I was walking around the convention floor and as I'm gearing up for more travel and more conventions and more conferences at you know as we move into 2027 That's top of mind for me right now. And so I reached out to some fitness experts and I was just asking them things like, you know, what would you bring if you were going on a trip and whatnot? And I actually had one person reach back out to me and her name is Ashley Katzenbach. She's a physical therapist.
01:03
And she shared some pretty cool things about things that she brings with her whenever she is traveling that I just wanted to share with you. So the first thing was she said she brings Element. Now, Element, if you don't know, is an electrolyte. It's a it's something you can pour into your water and basically just, you know, put the electrolytes into your drink so that you can get that hydration, get some sodium back in your in your body and all that good stuff.
01:26
And I've told you guys before that my drink of choice is Gatorade. That's just what I like to put into my bottle. That's what gives me my electrolyte back. So that's that's something I like. Some of the things she also mentioned that I never really thought about were sleep supplements and creatine. I can't say supplements. A couple of the things that she mentioned that I never really thought about were creatine supplements and sleep supplements. And the funny thing is I've never really tried any of those things, so I don't know how my body would react to them. I don't know what they're like, but it's an interesting idea. And if that helps you to feel better while you're on your trips or traveling, I guess you could try them out. A couple of the other things that Ashley said to bring whenever you are traveling are things like compression socks for the plane or while you're driving. And that's something
02:16
I never really thought about, but it's an interesting idea. And so I'm curious and I'm going to go and check and see. you know, what kind of compression socks exist and if they would actually help with things like circulation for me. She also mentioned a lacrosse ball. Now I've never used a lacrosse ball. I have no idea what that would be like. So it's another thing I'm going to go investigate. But the other two things that she really recommended that I am all for are things like a water bottle.
02:41
She actually specifically said a blender bottle because she does like protein packs and, you know, whenever you're mixing your element drinks and all that stuff, she uses a blender bottle. And then the last thing was a fabric band. Now, I personally use one of those Synergy bands for doing things like, you know, squats and leg lifts and all that stuff. And so like the resistance band is basically what I'm talking about. So a resistance band really helps me to keep getting in movement even while I'm on the road. It's something so small that I can just throw in my purse. and works from anywhere. And I just I love using it. So it's like just a simple thing that doesn't take up much space, but it helps me maintain my fitness goals by, you know, keeping it on me while I'm traveling. So those are some interesting ideas that if you are traveling, you might want to consider. I am going to keep looking into what kinds of things I should bring
03:30
with me for my upcoming travel. I'm hoping to go to things like Oh, my goodness. There's so many conferences that are on my bucket list for 2027. I want to go to sponsor games. I want to go to podcast movement. I want to go to FinCon. FinCon is a big one that I am dying to go to. So if you guys are interested in sponsoring, you know, a correspondent, hit me up. I would love, love, love to be your. your feet on the ground, you know, checking things out and reporting on it. I've done that for a couple of different companies where I'll go to a conference and I will literally report on what I saw and what I learned. And if you are interested in something like that, hit me up. I would love to chat with you. If you go to famousashtagrant .com backslash fitness, there's ways you can contact me there.
04:14
And I would just, I think it'd be so fun to like, you know, be your boots on the ground, girl, just more movement, please. You know. seeing what all there is to see and then sharing it with my audience and yours. So hit me up and, uh, yeah, let's, let's have some more fun in 2027. I can't wait to see like what is possible in terms of what conferences and conventions I go to. Gen Con's definitely on my list for 2027 as well. I would love to go to Dragon Con.
04:42
I would love to go to Comic -Con. I, oh my goodness. What kinds of places do you think I should go? Like I want to go everywhere that I possibly can. So if you go to famousastrogram .com backslash feedback, you can leave any kind of feedback that you want. And I think it'd be, I think it would just be so fun to like travel all over the place and share the message of movement while also sharing whatever it is I'm learning at whatever event I go to. So yeah, I think it's fun. And Ashley, thank you so much for sending me your list of things that I should bring on my next trip so that I can keep my fitness goals top.
05:14
of mind even though i am traveling onwards and upwards my friends have you worked out today
